MEMORIAL PARK GOLF CLUB

October - 2011

Dear Membership,

Wow what a challenging year this has been with the spring rains which kept the course closed much of March, April, and part of May; then the extreme heat of the summer and Mother Nature dumping even more rain on us this past month. The numbers are ugly and have caused the course to experience a minor cash flow problem. We are asking for your help. If you are planning on taking the pre-season discount and are able to pay a little earlier it will help. As a reward you will be entered into a drawing for a free cart card. One drawing will be held the day of the member appreciation outing for those who have paid by October 22. The other drawing will be held the Wednesday before Thanksgiving for those who pay between October 23 and November 23. You will receive one drawing ticket for every hundred spent.

When we met at our August monthly meeting, it was determined that we did not need to make this recreational activity, during tough economic times, more expensive. Rates for the 2012 season will not increase nor will the daily rate. This is the fourth consecutive year we have been able to hold on to our current rates. We have even included this year a payment plan if this fits your budget better. Much of this is due to the outings that use our course and by holding down some of our costs. We are going to raise the outing prices by five dollars but that will not raise the price you pay since you are already a member. We may not have the newest carts or equipment but we do have some of the nicest fairways and the best greens in the area. This testimony is not ours but from many out-of-towners who come to our course. None of our employees will take a pay raise next year in order to hold down costs, this in itself, shows how dedicated these individuals are. We owe a great deal of thanks to our maintenance crew who do so much on a shoestring budget.

We have partnered with the Lima News and Civitan in Findlay with a golf card that will market our course in those areas as well as with the Golf Card and Tee Times, a coupon booklet offering specials at surrounding courses. This booklet has led many new golfers our way. Once a player comes and plays our course, they almost always return. Their compliments about our course, sells it to their friends.

Some have asked why be a member? What do I gain? Besides being a part of a great group of people who love to play golf members receive the following: free handicap calculation, 2 to 3 dollar reduced cart fee during times when the specials are in effect, the ability to come out and play just a few holes anytime, five membership only outings, and reduced rates in outings.

We thank you for being a member of our course for the 2011 season and look forward to seeing you on the fairways and greens during the 2012 season.  To those of you who helped us out one way or another during the year – THANK YOU!

Don’t forget about the Membership Appreciation Par 3 Challenge scheduled for a 1:00 shotgun start on Saturday, October 22. Free chili, hotdogs, reduced price beverages and several skill prize awards will be distributed. See “Swing Thoughts” or stop by the course for more details.
